Football in Madrid

First the Real Madrid stadium!

We were in Madrid so I wanted to go to the Real Madrid stadium, “Santiago Bernabéu”, so we went there one day on the Metro.

We got off the Metro and right in front of it was the huge Real Madrid stadium. We went to buy tickets and they were expensive. I really really wanted to see it so we got the tickets and went up a huge staircase.

When we got up to the top we saw an awesome view of the whole field. There were 5 levels of seats all around the stadium. On the way down I found a cool machine and used it to crank out a squished cone saying Ronaldo “7”. “7” is Cristiano Ronaldo’s jersey number.

Even though the stadium was so big, the seats were quite small.

Then we went into the trophy room. It was amazing. It showed you all the trophies Real Madrid ever won. There were so many that they even got voted team of the century by FIFA! They also had touch TVs to let you see videos from all their games. They had big and small trophies. Some were shiny and silver. It looked like the Champions League trophy was made out of chalk. Dad said it was probably porcelain. There were some trophies bigger than me! It also showed you how the jerseys, balls and cleats had changed over the last century.

Then we went to the dressing rooms. We saw the injury room, the bathrooms and the hot tub. The best was the locker rooms. Every players name was there it was cool. This was where the actual players come before and after the game.

Then we walked down the hallway you see on TV that leads to the dugout.

The dugout seats were really comfy. I could not believe that we were actually sitting in the official dugout. I also realized that in the shady parts of the field they had artificial lights to grow the grass. There was a single guy walking around the field checking how the grass was growing

Next we went into the seats just above were the family and important people sit. Right in the centre of the field!

Then we went in to the press room where you see the players and managers talk on television after the game. It was cool that next time I see a Real Madrid game on TV, I can say I’ve been there.

I also realized that the field was smaller than BC Place at home. Only the number of people is bigger. I searched the stadium up on the Internet. It fits eighty-five thousand people.

It was so fun.

A couple of days later we went to see and Athletico Madrid game between Athletico Madrid and Elche!

We took the metro to get there too. It was crowded. When we got out of the metro we just followed the other fans. They led us to the stadium. The field was smaller than BC Place but the stadium was larger. It fits fifty-four thousand people!

We got in and my Mum got us drinks. Though every drink tasted like beer except the water!

The seats in this stadium weren’t any bigger than at the Real Madrid stadium.

It was so loud with all the cheering. I heard some of the cheers were used at home.

Then the game started. It was really exciting. Athetico Madrid missed a penalty. Then Athletico Madrid scored a good goal by Miranda in the seventy second minute. After that Athletico Madrid got another penalty in the ninetieth minute. This time Diago Costa scored!

Then the game ended and we walked back to the Metro and it was packed! So we walked to another Metro line and took it home.

In the end they were both really fun.
