The apartment on the Dolphin Coast was nice. It had a kitchen and two bedrooms. It also had a pool and was next to the beach. At the beach there was a tidal pool that had fish, coral and sea urchins. The sand was also ideal for building sand castles.
We also had a car for the first time on our trip. This meant that we had to go shopping a lot.
One day we set out on a one hour drive to UShaka. UShaka is a marine world and water park. One part is meant to represent a ship wreck and is full of different aquariums. The water park has the highest slide in South Africa
When we got to the UShaka parking lot, we had to walk along the beach to get to UShaka. We went to the marine world side first. There were also other things that you could pay for (like snorkelling in the aquariums, undersea walking and shark cage) but we did not go on any of those. There were many big tanks. Many you could see them from above. To see them up close, you needed to go into the ship wreck. It was really well done.
First we walked down a spiral stair case that had the skeleton of a whale suspended in the middle. The whale skeleton actually looked like it had hands. I think it’s hands evolved into fins because in the dinosaur times whale ancestors walked on land.
Then we saw two huge aquariums of fish. They were full all different shapes, sizes and colours of fish. We saw a huge old sea turtle and a bunch of younger ones as well. We also saw poisonous fish, sea horses, crabs and lobsters. Then we saw the jelly fish and rays.
The rays were cool but then we saw the sharks! They had really mean looking teeth. They looked really heavy.
Then we went out and went to see the seal show. The seal show was not very good. They did some tricks, but it wasn’t very impressive. The dude leading the show was very annoying.
The dolphin show was much better. The dolphins were doing lots of tricks, like jumps, flips, tail stands, splashed the crowd and played with balls and hula hoops. One even threw a plastic pop bottle into a recycling box. I learnt a lot.
Next we went to the water park. It was so fun. I went on the biggest slides. I even went on a slide that was like a toilet bowl and one that was pitch black inside. The toilet bowl was fun going around and around. In the pitch black slide you didn’t know where you were going.
The lazy river was really fun too. One round we raced and the other we just cruised. While we were cruising, we saw some penguins.
Then we ate lunch and dessert and headed off to the beach. We played in the waves and made a sand castle, then went home.
It was so fun!
