Emma’s Surfing Safari

About a week ago, we went to Kuta, Bali. The main reason we went to Kuta was for the surfing.

The first couple of days we were in Kuta, it was very stormy so we definitely couldn’t go surfing. One day we got lucky and were able to go to the beach and try surfing. When we got there, we watched the waves a little to make sure they were good. Then headed to one of the surfing schools.

We found a class that took us out for one hour and was only $15. We got changed and headed for the water. Before we got into the water we had to work on some basics. The basics we learnt were how to stand up on the board. Jacob could do it a lot quicker than I could, but I got the concept. We headed out into the water. It took a little while because there was an undertow.
When we finally got out to about chest deep, we started looking for waves. On my first wave I didn’t stand up because I was too much in shock. Surfing is so exciting.

On my second run I stood up! I was so thrilled. Riding a wave I’ve done before, but riding a wave standing up? Amazing! I would totally recommend going surfing. I stood up on a bunch of other waves too. Most of the time I fell off soon after but some I rolled all the way up to shore. On one Jacob and I went side by side. It was so hilarious. When we were just a few metres from shore, Jacob’s board started coming towards mine! We were going to crash! I didn’t want to crash land so I tried to stabilize the board while Jacob lost balance and jumped off. It was so funny.

Once in a while Jacob got to sit up on his board or roll off it. We were both having a great time. The only bad thing was the garbage. There was garbage everywhere on the beach and in the water. The reason there is so much garbage is because in the dry season locals put their waste in the dried out rivers. When the wet season comes the rivers push all the garbage out the coast. You couldn’t go swimming without getting hit by a piece of garbage.

Aside from that, it was easily the one of the best water experiences I’ve ever had.
Speaking of water experiences, our family also went to a water park while we were in Kuta. The water park was called ‘Waterbom’. There are lots of slides and some pools. When we got there Jacob and I were so excited.

The first ride we went on was the ‘Boomerang’. It shot you out of this pipe into a steep drop and then onto a steep skateboard ramp for tubes. Some people could almost touch the rim. It was awesome and a little scary at the same time.

The next slide we went on was the ‘Pipeline’. This ride had lots of loops and turns. You had to cross your arms and feet it went so fast. The other rides were just as fun. My favourite one was this really steep drop near the back of the park. I would definitely recommend going if your in Bali.
