This year we had Christmas away from home. I wasn’t too excited about it, but I was looking forward to it. Christmas was way different this year than any other year. There were a ton of reasons. The main ones were.
- No snow
- No cold
- Not seeing friends and family
- No big tree
There are more reasons but these are the biggest.
We made the best of it though. We got a tiny fake Christmas tree about 1-2 feet tall. We bought lights, tinsel and little ornaments. We also made a little star to go on top. We spent about 30 minutes decorating our Christmas tree, where at home it takes a couple hours.
We lit up the Christmas tree every evening. We were very proud of our tiny tree, mostly because it was more difficult in Thailand. This Christmas didn’t feel as much like Christmas at home. We did get some things that we also get at home. Things like cookies, stockings and presents. Obviously we didn’t get as many presents as at home, but we did get some. Most of which we could use or bring on the trip.
Jacob and I also got stockings. They were our very own socks (the long ones)! They were filled with candy. We had a great time going through them and trying to get all the candy out.
On Christmas morning Jacob and I woke up and sat around the tree waiting for everyone else to get up. We opened our stockings then headed for our presents. We opened then in turns, just like home. Jacob and I both got books that we really wanted. We were really happy about that. We all enjoyed our presents and spending time with our family.
I got a laser pointer that I was really happy about. That night I used it to point at all the stars in the sky. It was really cool. My laser pointer doesn’t go all the way to the stars, but it goes very far for a laser pointer. With enough batteries, it makes a very vivid line in the sky so everyone around you can see what your pointing at.
Jacob got some really cool soccer stuff. My Mum got some carved soap and a cute little key chain. My Dad got a really cool magnetic game with chess, 4-in-a-row and checkers.
We had an awesome time on Christmas day and will never forget it. It was definitely the most unique Christmas I’ve ever had. I loved the Christmas holiday, even though I was missing all of my family and friends.
